Located in the Bordeaux region, on the Right Bank of the Dordogne, the village of Saint Emilion overlooks vineyards with an outstanding history. Saint Emilion was built from limestone rock omnipresent in the subsoil. The village retains its strong medieval identity. Wine growers are farmers specialized in viticulture. They plant vines, train them, prune them, protect them, and plough the soil in order to produce precious grapes they will later make into a wine that Louis the 14th called “nectar of the gods”. In Saint Emilion, winegrowers can become members of the Union de Producteurs, who look after fermentation, aging, bottling, and sales. Saint Emilion produces a huge variety of wines with different personalities. Each one reflects its terroir, blend of grape varieties, the way the vines were grown, and how the wine was fermented and aged, as well as the expertise of the winemaker – an art very much worth discovering.
