MAISON MATISCO BOURGOGNE, FRANCE

Maison Matisco is based just outside the village of Davayé, in the hills of Mâconnais, Burgundy, France . Brothers Richard and Stéphane Martin took over from their father Maurice Martin, in the early 1990s, and are continuing the work begun him, fifty years earlier. They are dedicated to demonstrate and propagate their core values: growing vines of the highest quality, in a way that respects and protects their land. The Martin brothers have long been renowned for their skill and expertise – together, they honed their techniques to bring the very best out of their chardonnay grapes. Brought up among the vines, they learned all they needed to know about the dedication and passion required to create extraordinary wines, wines that express the infinite different nuances of their terroirs, wines that enthral, and wines that people remember as unique experiences. What was a 16 acre domaine has now grown to some 62 acres, spread over 52 individual parcels – nearly all surrounding their modern winery in the commune of Davayé. Since 2006, they have been totally organic and are now certified as such. The hills of the Mâconnais stretch for 25 miles along the Saône and Grosne Rivers. With the cooling rivers and the alternating strata of vines and marshland, the morning fog in the depths of the valleys and the multitude of ways the sun strikes the slopes, the Mâconnais has one of the most interesting panoramas of any wine region in Burgundy. Each of the infinite nuances in the rich landscape is reflected in the superb white wines produced here. This is the true home of the chardonnay grape. Everything is perfect for it here.
