Maison Idiart’s founder and winemaker, Nicolas Idiart, grew up with a love for wine, a passion he shared with his father and grandfather. He started his career in wine at the ripe age of 19, graduated from Blanquefort, a renowned French winemaking school, and started working right away in wineries in in Chinon, Touraine and Muscadet, then New Zealand and Australia. He moved to Canada on a whim and began working in wine sales there, then came back to Bordeaux and continued in sales for many years with a wine merchant for the North American market. This sales experience gave him valuable insight for the different global markets. In 2014, Nicolas finally went back to his passion for winemaking and founded the Maison Idiart. Nicolas’ approach in the vineyard is to promote quality, sustainability, and social responsibility. He has a taste for adventure and is always up for a challenge! Excited by new projects and ways to make innovations in the industry, he maintains an artisanal approach to winemaking to produce terroir expressive wines.
